In Conversation With Jochi Amma, A Tribal Woman From Wayanad, Kerala

The Womb team met and spoke to Jochi Amma, a tribal woman and has been curing tribals and people from far off places, of their medical ailments using indigenous medicines. She spoke in Malayalam, and big thanks to Mr. T Sukumaran Nair (Founder of Koomankolly Heritage Retreat, Wayanad, Kerala; Former Managing Director, Kerala State Bamboo Corporation Ltd.; Kerala State Cooperative amongst others) for helping with the translation.

Her approach to health is very holistic and she prefers natural medicines as a cure for all diseases. She is also against exploitation of forest goods for commercial use by big companies.

It is inspiring to hear about her journey, where with little formal education but tonnes of knowledge about the secrets of forests, learnt by her family traditions, she has made a significant difference to the lives of those around her.
